Course Information
RYA Day Skipper Theory 5 Day Class in Southampton
A comprehensive introduction to Navigation for Sailors, Powerboaters, Kayakers, Fishermen, Divers etc
This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day.
A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night navigation.
The RYA is continually updating its courses to take into account developments in
technology and the electronic navigation aids now available on most cruising / power boats.
In conjunction with the UK Hydrographic Office the RYA have developed a chart plotter
specifically for use on training courses, giving you a realistic insight into electronic
navigation.
Use of this plotter is an integral part of the Day Skipper shorebased course. You will need access to a PC to use the RYA Chart Plotter CD. We will provide PCs during the class.
Course Equipment included in the course fee
RYA Day Skipper Pack includes:- 2 Charts, Work Sheets / Questions, Day Skipper Handbook, Electronic Plotter CD, 2 Assessment papers - all are included in the course fee.
Plotters and dividers can be loaned from us whilst in the classroom.
The 5 Day Course
Your Tutor will be in the classroom from 08.30 so that you can play catch up on subjects, complete any unfinished home work, or just review some areas of the course - or eat a snack!
The course will commence at 09.00, a mixture of tuition, interactive exercises, personal chartwork navigation, and completion of the RYA Day Skipper Theory Exercices covering all aspects of the RYA theory syllabus.
For lunch there is a sandwich shop/cafe located nearby and we have a microwave oven in our galley!
The class will conclude each day at 17.00 with a little homework designed to support the development of learning.
