Overview of our RYA Advanced Powerboat courses.
Welcome to our RYA Advanced Powerboat courses, the expectation is that you are
practising Theory of Navigation and Practical Boat Handling Skills to a high standard,
you wish to either gain higher qualifications for Personal Satisfaction or enter into
Commercial Work.

1. RYA Advanced Powerboat Prep: Is one Afternoon with the Evening getting to know
the Powerboat and how to use the two Chartplotters and RADAR. Participants
usually complete this the day before the RYA Advanced Powerboat course starts.

2. RYA Advanced Powerboat course: One Day with the Evening and the Next Day, this is
the delivery of the RYA Advanced Powerboat course syllabus, putting into practice the
Theory of Navigation, developing further Navigation Skills and Practical Boat

3. RYA/MCA Advanced Powerboat CoC Prep and Exam: Two Afternoons and Two
Evenings of Preparation Training for taking the Certificate of Competence RYA/MCA

4. RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructors course: One Day with the Evening and the next Day,
this is the delivery of the RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructors course syllabus. Participants are already
Competent RYA Powerboat Instructors, having successfully completed the RYA/MCA Advanced Powerboat

RYA Advanced Powerboat Prep Course Details.
The day before you start the RYA Advanced Powerboat Course with us how about getting to know the Powerboat you will be Driving and Navigating.
This is an opportunity to try out the Powerboat and familiarise yourself with the Navigation Equipment on board. A course specifically for participants that are completing the RYA Advanced Powerboat course with us.
Next day when you start the RYA Advanced Powerboat course with us you will be 'getting up to speed' with the Powerboat and Navigation Equipment operating principles giving you more time to put the principles into practice during the RYA Advanced Powerboat course.
Course Duration | 1 Afternoon and 1 Evening. (Same Day). |
Times | 14.00 - 22.00. Seasonal Dependent/Times Approximate. |
Previous Experience | Participants should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat Certificate with a thorough knowledge of navigation and chartwork to the level of RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory. It is strongly recommended that participants hold a first aid certificate and a VHF operators certificate. |
Minimum Age | 17 Years old. |
Assessment | No Assessment, this is a Training and Feedback course. |
Certification | No Certification. |
Clothing | Please bring suitable warm clothing to wear (under our free to use Musto GORE-TEX MPX waterproofs) also a hat, gloves, sun screen, and appropriate wellies / shoes - that may get wet, all appropriate for the time of year. |
Lifejackets | We will provide Lifejackets. If you would like to wear your own Lifejacket please ensure that its serviceability is in date and is fitted with a light. |
Refreshment | We provide tea and coffee that you can make yourself. |
Lunch/Evening meal | Please bring drinks and a snack/meal for the evening. |
Parking. Fuel for the Powerboat | Parking is Free. Fuel for the Powerboat is all in the Total course fee. VAT Is not charged |

Hands On!
Data Transfer & Digital Navigation.
Instrutor Led Familiarisation Time.
Ashore:
An opportunity to put together a Passage Plan using paper charts and also using Digital Navigation.
Using the Apple iPad put a waypoint route together.
Afloat:
Data Tansfer the route to the two Chartplotters on the Powerboat.
Drive the Powerboat whilst Navigating to your destination.
Instructor Tuition and Participant Feedback.

Hands On!
Powerboat Driving Day/Night.
An opportunity to 'get to know the Powerboat'.
A Daylight Familiarisation session followed by the Night session.
A Hands On Driving and Chartplotter practical.
Instructor support throughout.

Hands On!
Radar Familiarisation.
Whilst others are driving the Powerboat using the dedicated drivers Chartplotter, participants can sit in the front seat and 'get familiar' with the Radar on the 12" Touch Screen Chartplotter.
MARPA, EBL, VRM Demonstrations.
Try it out practical.
Instructor support throughout.

Hands On!
Twin Engine Powerboat
Familiarisation.
Working together with other participants to develop a Safety First approach to Powerboat driving.
An opportunity for participants to familiarise themselves with the Powerboat and its support equipment.
Hands On Practical Sessions with:-
Powerboat Equipment and Driving,
Chartplotters,
Radar,
Identifying other vessels,
Use of IRPCS,
Buoyage, Tides, etc, etc.
